TO THE MOCKING BIRD, by DUKE COLE MEREDITH First Line: Before the dawn while slumbers fade through dreams Last Line: Provide the soul with messages that please. Subject(s): Mockingbirds | ||||||||
Before the dawn while slumbers fade through dreams To some half-conscious state, your trilling voice Promotes a calm as pure as mountain streams, -- Like sun through a shower, bids the heart rejoice. At noon-tide when the sunbeams flood the earth And deepen shadows beneath the verdant trees, Your songs transform all weariness to mirth And waft content upon each fragrant breeze. At even-tide when daily toil is ended You lead the spirit through a tranquil peace; And while the shades of evening are extended, Your crystal notes make restfulness increase. The rhapsodies your throat unrolls with ease Provide the soul with messages that please. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...TO OUR MOCKING-BIRD; DIED OF A CAT, MAY, 1878 by SIDNEY LANIER MOCKING BIRDS by KENNETH REXROTH MOCKINGBIRD MONTH by MONA VAN DUYN PATRIOTIC TOUR AND POSTULATE OF JOY by ROBERT PENN WARREN THE MOCKING BIRD by SIDNEY LANIER THE MOCKING-BIRD by FRANK LEBBY STANTON TO THE MOCKINGBIRD by RICHARD HENRY WILDE FORSAKEN SOLITUDES by DUKE COLE MEREDITH |
