BELATED SPRING, by
First Line: The laboring woods hold back the storm
Last Line: And tremble in the cold.
Subject(s): Spring

The laboring woods hold back the storm,
With leafless limbs for shield;
And prone along the southern edge,
My sheep lie in a field.

The arrows of a roaring gale
Are barbed with frozen rain;
My wooly flock is stirring in
Awindy, wet March lane.

Hold fast in leash unnatural spring,
And shelter out of fold,
My new-born lambs which shiver so,
And tremble in the cold.
