A SINGING BIRD, by SARA V. PRUESER First Line: The family tree from which you came Last Line: The musical notes of a singing bird. Subject(s): Birds; Singing & Singers | ||||||||
The family tree from which you came, I somehow, hesitate to name Some lizard or hissing snake, As fictional stories go that make A curious something you are not; But always puzzles me as to what Your being really is. A heart With latent strength enough to start A drachm of hottest scarlet blood And keep it going at swiftest flood A thousand beats or more an hour, Must have evolved with creative power To change a sickening hiss to word The musical notes of a singing bird. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE APOLLO TRIO by CONRAD AIKEN BAD GIRL SINGING by MARK JARMAN CHAMBER MUSIC: 4 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 5 by JAMES JOYCE CHAMBER MUSIC: 28 by JAMES JOYCE THE SONG OF THE NIGHTINGALE IS LIKE THE SCENT OF SYRINGA by MINA LOY |
