TRYSTING, by EDNA DENHAM RAYMOND First Line: Oh, mystery lake, and mystery night, and tender silver stars Last Line: As I remember our trysting night when beauty and wonder stood still. Subject(s): Flowers; Kisses; Love; Togetherness | ||||||||
Oh, mystery lake, and mystery night, and tender silver stars, The waves rolled in, the moon rose high, and beauty content was ours; The evening air was still, and sweet with fragrance that flowers make, While sacredness from earth's first dawn was blown across the lake. My heart poured incense to your mood so wholly, completely mine, As rapture sought the exquisite dream where hope and love entwine. Your breath was hot as the summer breeze that awakens scarlet flowers, While you held me in your throbbing arms for hours, and for hours. Oh, we were one, enfolded in the night and air and space, And heartaches were far, far off things we could not heed or trace. No fear can dim the treading years, nor grey time in its flight For over and over, I shall recall the wonder of that night; The waning moon, the coming dawn, the breeze from out the south, Your half closed eyes, your sleepless soul, your kiss upon my mouth. In a thousand ways, through thousands of days my heart will sing and thrill As I remember our trysting night when beauty and wonder stood still. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A WOMAN WITH FLAXEN HAIR IN NORFOLK HEARD by ROBERT KELLY YESTERDAY FROM MY FEVER by GALWAY KINNELL IF YOU COULD COME SOFTLY by AUDRE LORDE MISGIVINGS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS NOW THAT YOU'RE HERE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS SILENT IN THE MOONLIGHT by ROBERT BLY |
