Shade trees stand everywhere undressed,
Autumnal gowns are gone;
Relaxing for their Winter rest,
Tired out from Summer's fun.

They lift up naked, leafless arms
To reach a rippled sky,
Displaying curved, symmetric charms
For any passer-by.

Next Spring, each eagerly will don
Her lacy frock of green
With flowery buds, like frail chiffon,
Pastelled in rainbow sheen.
