DESERT NIGHT, by MARGARET WHEELER ROSS First Line: The mountains have put on Last Line: Responsories. Subject(s): Deserts; Food & Eating; Night; Bedtime | ||||||||
The mountains have put on Their robes of midnight blue, And settled down to sleep Beneath the sky; The moon, in gold beret, Is coyly peeping through The shirred and ruffled clouds As they drift by. The cowled and cassocked palms, Like cloistered monks in line, Recite nocturnal Mass With rustling breeze; And droning insect choirs, Before a hidden shrine, Religiously intone Responsories. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN ARIZONA by MARGARET WHEELER ROSS |
