DESERT FLUTES, by SARAH DELLA ULMER First Line: When the night is wrapped in slumber Last Line: I shall rise and follow them. Subject(s): Deserts; Food & Eating | ||||||||
When the night is wrapped in slumber With no sound save dampered mutes, I am sometimes faintly conscious Of the trill of desert flutes. They may permeate my dreaming, They may skirt my deep repose, They may penetrate the shadow Where my sleeping spirit goes. In the dense and murky darkness, Their roulades may swell and fade, While I only sense the lulling Of a dreamy serenade. When my days at length are numbered At some twilight's fringent hem, If the desert flutes are calling, I shall rise and follow them. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAITRESSING IN THE ROOM WITH A THOUSAND MOONS by MATTHEA HARVEY CANDIED YAMS' by TERRANCE HAYES DINNER OF HERBS by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN THE BANQUET SONG by KENNETH KOCH SPLITTING AN ORDER by TED KOOSER DUSK ON THE DESERT by SARAH DELLA ULMER |
