QUESTING, by SARAH DELLA ULMER First Line: The desert shares its loneliness with stars Last Line: In mystery -- slip noiselessly away. Subject(s): Deserts; Food & Eating; Sonnet (as Literary Form) | ||||||||
The desert shares its loneliness with stars That gleam above its head. The antiphon Of ministered canticle the winds chant on, But no discordant note its cadence mars. The melody in soft cathedral bars, Divinely sweet, floats out when day is gone, And sallow worlds shine forth in pallor wan, To perch like jeweled fires on evening's spars. I long to go on soundless feet, to quest Those paths that desert winds beat through the fields Of swaying stars. And it may be some day I shall -- without a word, intent to test That realm, to plumb those depths the desert shields In mystery -- slip noiselessly away. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAS THAT REALLY A SONNET? by ANSELM HOLLO RETICENT SONNET by ANNE CARSON SONNET: OF THREE GIRLS AND OF THEIR TALK by GIOVANNI BOCCACCIO WHAT THE SONNET IS by EUGENE JACOB LEE-HAMILTON ON A MAGAZINE SONNET by RUSSELL HILLARD LOINES THE HOUSE OF LIFE: THE SONNET (INTRODUCTION) by DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI DESERT FLUTES by SARAH DELLA ULMER |
