SONNET TO A DESERT NIGHT, by SARAH DELLA ULMER First Line: The desert's magic lure has gripped my soul Last Line: I stand uncovered to the desert night. Subject(s): Deserts; Food & Eating | ||||||||
The desert's magic lure has gripped my soul In ecstasies of charmed and sheer delight. When wafts the chanted cadence of the night To me, it balms my tortured spirit whole. From some far reach I catch the muted roll And mellow chime of silver music bright, Where shadows lurk seducing moonbeams white On billowed plain and distant, canted knoll. The constellated sky -- a blaze of flame That glows from sacrificial altars, high, Of other worlds, vast planets brave of name -- Is torched by fires lowslung, enticing, nigh. Mid sifted stardust and cathedral light, I stand uncovered to the desert night. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAITRESSING IN THE ROOM WITH A THOUSAND MOONS by MATTHEA HARVEY CANDIED YAMS' by TERRANCE HAYES DINNER OF HERBS by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN THE BANQUET SONG by KENNETH KOCH SPLITTING AN ORDER by TED KOOSER DESERT FLUTES by SARAH DELLA ULMER |
