THEIR LAST STAND, by DONA WAYLAND First Line: Peering tensely with naked curiosity Last Line: Hunted -- they take their last stand. Subject(s): Mustangs | ||||||||
Peering tensely with naked curiosity They wander high among the hills, Mustangs, the last of a race rapidly vanishing ... Clouds blown through the great crossways In endless procession above their heads. Plunderers -- doomed to extinction. Majestic, free they speed over the horizon, Up the dried lava streams, Shadows that travel far Among a duel of opposing forces. Upon the mountain top, Watching the guarded places, Listening to whispers of the forest, Hunted -- they take their last stand. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CRATER OF THE MOON (IN IDAHO) by DONA WAYLAND RED SHADOWS, SELECTION by DONA WAYLAND NO MATTER WHAT, AFTER ALL, AND THAT BEAUTIFUL WORD SO by HAYDEN CARRUTH LENNIE SWENSON by KAREN SWENSON A VIEW ACROSS THE ROMAN CAMPAGNA by ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING NON SUM QUALIS ERAM BONAE SUB REGNO CYNARAE by ERNEST CHRISTOPHER DOWSON CHARACTERS: MARTHA JENNINGS by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD |
