SONNET TO W.B.N, by ELISE WOODWARD First Line: I have no rainbow dreams to offer you Last Line: The love is for myself and will endure. Subject(s): Love | |||
I have no rainbow dreams to offer you, No many-colored visions, cobweb fine, No lacy unreality, no new Sun-thought, spun gold imagery of mine. I have no strong belief, no pure ideal, No salve to soothe your elemental need, No doorway to escape to the unreal, No certainty, nor faith-defying creed. I tell you my denials with timid fear, In fairness, that you love no shadow me; I tremble should they make me seem less dear Than you have always found me formerly. But if you love me now I shall be sure The love is for myself and will endure. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE INVENTION OF LOVE by MATTHEA HARVEY TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS A LOVE FOR FOUR VOICES: HOMAGE TO FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN by ANTHONY HECHT AN OFFERING FOR PATRICIA by ANTHONY HECHT LATE AFTERNOON: THE ONSLAUGHT OF LOVE by ANTHONY HECHT A SWEETENING ALL AROUND ME AS IT FALLS by JANE HIRSHFIELD |
