Can I be sure that love is still for me? The aftermath of passion's fire that cooled When youth was gone. For then life held us In a golden flame that transcends Season. Must love be ever tried by fire and youth? Uncertain, flaunting silly fears before the eyes? Or is it tried by sorrow's tears? And when you come, and that is soon, Will seasoned memories still include But echoes of that interlude? Or has it left A dearer, deeper thing, a steady glow Of constant need for one another? A love refined by passion's heat A muted melody, complete? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ELEVEN EYES: FINAL SECTION by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: COME OCTOBER by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: HOME by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: TIME IS FILLED by LYN HEJINIAN SLOWLY: I FREQUENTLY SLOWLY WISH by LYN HEJINIAN ALL THE DIFFICULT HOURS AND MINUTES by JANE HIRSHFIELD A DAY IS VAST by JANE HIRSHFIELD |
