SAILING, by CLARENCE MAJOR Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: Helping her with her knots Last Line: Together against the breakers Subject(s): Sailing & Sailors; Seamen; Sails | ||||||||
Helping her with her knots, I spread my sails in her storm, put up the clamp, put up my mast, the clamp on it. I put down her lines, keeping my trust in them -- in the storm before dark. We anchor and watch our different ropes move back toward our last turn in the water. We time them together against the breakers. Used with the permission of Copper Canyon Press, P.O.
